Practice history
Torquay dentists was opened exactly where it is now in 1991 by David Faulkner. David provided dental services to Hervey Bay for almost 30 years until is retirement at the end of 2021. The practice is now under the ownership of Berry Attwell and Iona Hancock. Both ladies have 20 years+ experience as dentists and under their care the practice will continue to have a focus on good quality, accessible, family dentistry, provided with good humour and care.

Iona is the most recent addition to the team. She has lived and worked in Hervey Bay for 9 years so although new to the practice is not a new face to the Bay. She enjoys all aspects of family dentistry but is especially passionate about caring for people who may have teeth which are beyond saving, guiding them through the transition to dentures. Like berry she is also an Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland an has accreditation at St Stephens hospital which means she can do routine dental care there whilst a patient is under a general anaesthetic. She is also a member of the Australian Society of Hypnosis and has completed some post graduate study in hypnosis. Iona has 2 young children so is often happy to come to work for a cup of tea in peace!
Berry has been at the practice for a couple of years. Berry’s lovely chairside manner and patience have made her a hit with patients young and old. She has many years of experience in general dentistry and also holds the position of Associate Lecturer with University of Queensland, which enables her to mentor and supervise final year dental students on placement in the Oral Health facility of Wide Bay Health. Berry has 3 teenage boys so is as proficient at washing sports kits as she is at fillings!
Karen is a familiar face to many of the patients who have been coming for years as she was David’s off sider for over 20 years. She used to know where everything could be found until Iona arrived and messed up the order!
Cassie’s is mainly to be found running reception. She achieved her Cert 3 in dental assisting in 2021. Her greatest talents are however in admin and so that is where she usually found, keeping us all in order.
Petrina has a background in reception and surgery she works mainly in surgery now but can be found messing up Cassie’s reception desk on certain days!
All 3 ladies are proud (and young!) nannas and will happily regale you with stories of their newest family members!
